I/// il Nuovo presidente di Regione Sicilia - nato a Gela, citta di cui è stato consigliere comunale, Assessore alla Cultura e poi alla Pubblica istruzione e, soprattutto, Sindaco dal 2003.
Carica questa che, dopo la conferma nel 2007, ha ricoperto fino alla sua elezione al Parlamento Europeo, nel 2009.

Politicamente ha sempre militato nella Sinistra, aderendo al partito Comunista ed in seguito, a Rifondazione comunista e alla Federazione dei Verdi, e nel Pd nel 2008, partito nelle cui liste è stato eletto al Parlamento Europeo, nella circoscrizione Italia insulare, con 150.091 voti.

Rosario Crocetta - come professione ha lavorato per ENI, in diversi Paesi del mondo, ed ha svolto attività di giornalista per i quotidiani L Unita, Il Manifesto e Liberazione.
Ha pubblicato nel 1997 la raccolta di poesie - Diario di una giostra e nel 2006 il libro - Io ci credo - Gela, citta della Legalita - che racconta la sua esperienza amministrativa come sindaco.

Sicily become increasingly multiethnic

The regional elections in Sicily has produced a surprise: the candidate of the Democratic Party PD, which has emerged from the Communist Party, Rosario Crocetta, got the most votes and is now President of the autonomous region of Sicily.

He had been supported by the Christian Democrats of UDC and beat the candidate of Berlusconi's PdL party.

- Rosario Crocetta has become known as a fighter against the Mafia, even as Mayor of Gela, he had ensured that the influence of the Cosa Nostra has been pushed back.

Most recently, he had fought the Mafia as an MEP.

Obviously this had him among the population so popular that voters turned a blind eye on another flaw: The 61-year-old is gay and makes no secret of it.

However, he lives alone, a life partner would probably not be expected to voters.
Already in Aug 2012, he said thus: When I became President of the Sicilian Region, I will say goodbye to the sex and be married only with Sicily and the Sicilians.

For a partner, life would be at his side certainly no pleasure because Crocetta is timely discovered after several attempts stop constantly surrounded by bodyguards.

The newly elected President of Sicily, Rosario Crocetta, appointed SINGER and COMPOSER Franco Battiato as his Regional Councillor for Culture, saying that Sicilians should love their land more, spend more on culture, work together to build a new Sicily and be proud of their identity.

This remark was seized upon by the media and it was soon being said that the singer was only going to be a kind of - Cultural consultant.

Today, however, Mr Crocetta made a further announcement in which he confirmed that Mr Battiato will have special responsibility for Tourism and entertainment in the region and the singer says that he intends to organise events which will really put Sicily on the world map.

Mr Crocetta has made it clear that he wants a - committee of intellectuals - to be at the heart of regional government in Sicily as - a place which doesn't value its intellectuals is doomed.

Die Regionalwahlen auf Sizilien haben eine Überraschung hervorgebracht: Der Kandidat der Demokratischen Party PD, die aus der kommunistischen Partei hervorgegangen ist, Rosario Crocetta, bekam die meisten Stimmen und wird nun Präsident der autonomen Region Sizilien.
Er war von den Christdemokraten der UDC unterstützt worden und konnte den Kandidaten der Berlusconi-Partei PdL schlagen.
- Rosario Crocetta ist als Kämpfer gegen die Mafia bekannt geworden, schon als Bürgermeister von Gela hatte er dafür gesorgt, dass der Einfluss der Cosa Nostra zurückgedrängt wurde.

Zuletzt hatte er die Mafia als Europaabgeordneter bekämpft.

Offensichtlich hatte ihn dies bei der Bevölkerung so beliebt gemacht, dass die Wähler über einen anderen Makel hinwegsahen: Der 61-Jährige ist schwul und macht daraus kein Geheimnis.

Allerdings lebt er allein, ein Lebenspartner wäre den Wählern wohl nicht zuzumuten.

Schon im August sagte er deshalb: Wenn ich Präsident der Region Sizilien geworden bin, werde ich mich vom Sex verabschieden und nur noch mit Sizilien und den Sizilianern verheiratet sein.

Für einen Partner wäre das Leben an seiner Seite sicher auch kein Vergnügen, denn Crocetta ist nach mehreren rechtzeitig entdeckten Anschlagsversuchen ständig von Personenschützern umgeben.

Nach der Wahl kündigte der Sieger an, dass seine Regierung zu 50% aus Frauen bestehen soll.

Dies dürfte der nächste Kulturschock für die Sizilianer werden.

Wenn er dann noch seine Ankündigung wahr macht, dass er für Moral und Effizienz sorgen will, dann könnte seine eigene Prophezeiung wahr werden: Ich bin die Revolution
