🔹 2020 🔹 Steve Coleman straordinario musicista, tra i pochi innovatori e sperimentatori degli ultimi 25 anni il suo nome indissolubilmente legato al collettivo M-Base, di cui fu cofondatore ed in cui confluirono i suoi Five Elements

Per profondità e radicalità di linguaggio, l’importanza del suo percorso creativo è stata paragonata alle rivoluzioni di Parker e di Coltrane.
Approdato al sax alto dopo un breve interesse per il violino, ha trovato in Parker, Rollins e Coltrane i primi modelli cui riferirsi.
Ma importantissimi per la sua crescita musicale furono anche i veterani di Chicago dei suoi anni di formazione: Von Freeman, Bunky Green, Gido Sinclair e molti altri.

Trasferitosi a New York ha la possibilità di collaborare con le Big Bands di Thad Jones e Mel Lewis, di Sam Rivers e di Cecil Taylor. In quel periodo serie di importanti collaborazioni come sideman, basti citare qui Dizzy Gillespie, David Murray, Doug Hammond, Dave Holland, Michael Brecker, Abbey Lincoln
