Beniamina del pubblico newyorkese, vincitrice Grammy Award - continua star ospite in New York Lincoln Center di Carnegie Hall e delle stagioni musicali firmate da Wynton Marsalis, Catherine è fra le più grandi cantanti americane sulla scena internazionale.

Figlia d’arte (la madre era Carline Ray, contrabbassista di Mary Lou Williams, il padre era il celebre band leader Luis Russell, a lungo direttore dell’orchestra di Louis Armstrong), per anni partner vocale in concerti e incisioni discografiche di David Bowie, la Russell è straordinaria interprete del repertorio afro - americano degli anni Venti e Trenta.

E proprio nella Harlem della Swing Era ci conduce questo appassionante concerto, in cui la Russell è accompagnata da un gruppo di straordinari solisti e specialisti come il celebre chitarrista e arrangiatore Matt Munisteri (che molti ricorderanno numerose volte al Teatro Manzoni, sia come leader che come sideman della Millennium Territory Orchestra di Steven Bernstein) e il trombettista Jon-Erik Kellso.
