Germany and France will jointly issue a new 2 euro coin, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Ιlysιe Treaty.

As announced by the German Ministry of Finance, the issuing will take place on 22 January, as part of the festivities carried out within the framework of the Franco-German Year - from Sept 2012 to July 2013.

The national side of the new coin will depict the signatories of the Ιlysιe Treaty, Federal Chancellor Konrad Adenauer and French President Charles de Gaulle, together with their signatures and bilingual text denoting the occasion for the joint-issue coin.

This side of the coin will be identical in both countries, except for the country designation and the national engraving mark.

On the other hand, the side of the coin denoting its value, together with the edge lettering and the general technical parameters, will be the same as on any NORMAL 2 euro coin.

As always, the edge of the German two-euro coin will be embossed with the inscription - Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit - as well as a stylised federal eagle.
