A must for the Discerning Maritime Stakeholder

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Joe Mizzi announced that next October Malta will host the first Malta Maritime Summit,
an international event that will consolidate the present Government's will to establish the country as a centre of maritime excellence,

Hesaid that the Government, through the Ministry for Transport and Infrastructure and Transport Malta that continuously supports
such events, supports the Malta Maritime Summit 2016.

The decision to organise such an important event in Malta will certainly consolidate Malta's position as a maritime nation with special attention to the regional and international situation, the harbours, maritime markets and investment.


////////////////// Minister Joe Mizzi said that the Government is conscious that Malta has a natural potential to act as a centre of maritime excellence in the Mediterranean.

He said that its geographic position, the harbours and the traditional maritime culture will serve as a strong base to continuous growth.


The Minister announced that the Malta registry experienced a 14.3% increase in registrations last year and by the end of the year there were 66.2 million gross tonnage registered under the Maltese Flag.

He added that the Maltese flag has grown to one of the biggest in the world, in the category of superyachts registrations.

There was also an increase of 10.8% in registrations under the Maltese flag over the previous year.

The yachting sector has shown potential growth for the Maltese
islands during 2015.
