System of a Down (talvolta abbreviato semplicemente in S.O.A.D.) sono un gruppo alternative metal Armeno / Usa - formatosi a Los Angeles nel 1995 alternative rock bands piω famose di tutti i tempi si riunisce per tornare a suonare dal vivo.
Serj Tankian (voce) e Daron Malakian (chitarra), 2 giovani di origine armene, si conoscono tramite le rispettive band che registravano nello stesso studio a Los Angeles. Hanno gusti musicali convergenti e decidono di formare un gruppo, i Soil, ingaggiando Shavo Odadjian sia come bassista e chitarrista, sia come loro manager. Nel 1995 avviene la svolta con la formazione ufficiale dei System Of A Down: Serj e Daron rispettivamente alla voce e alla chitarra, mentre Shavo si dedica unicamente al basso, con la nuova e definitiva entrata di John Dolmayan alla batteria.
