Morto in Virginia, a 84 anni, per una polmonite, Lorin Varencove Maazel era nato in Francia (Neuilly-sur-Seine, nei pressi di Parigi)

nato a Parigi da genitori americani - bambino prodigio - iniziato la sua carriera molto presto: ha ricevuto il suo primo violino all'etŕ di 5 anni e poco dopo ha imparato da Vladimir Bakaleinikoff l'arte di condurre.

All'etŕ di 8 anni aveva condotto una orchestra universitaria.
Tra i 9 e 15 anni, aveva giŕ diretto la maggior parte delle grandi orchestre americane

All'etŕ di 17 anni ha studia c/o Universitŕ di Pittsburgh, lingue, matematica e filosofia.

La sua carriera inarrestabile, nel 1960 primo direttore americano a dirigere a Bayreuth, al Festival di Salisburgo ha fatto il suo debutto 1963

il suo strumento: il violino dimenticato, il Maestro dirige sempre Nuove orchestre e nuovi Templi di Musica colta.

Ha suonato con numerosisse orchestre
(Wiener Philharmoniker) di tutto il mondo e ha anche composto numerosi concerti per violino.

- from 1965 to 1975, he was the general music manager of Deutsche Opera Berlin and top conductor of the Berlin Radio Orchestra.

He became the Cleveland Orchestra’s conduct in 1972.
In 1976 Maazel become a permanent guest conductor of the French National Orchestra and, in 1982, Maazel became a permanent conductor and music director of Vienna State Opera.

He consulted for the Pittsburgh SO from 1984 until 1988 when he led the whole orchestra as the musical director.

During his eight year role as musical director, he also worked with the Bavarian Radio SO as a top conductor in Munich.

After spending 1993 to 2002 in and out of Germany, he went to work with the New York Philharmonic as a permanent conductor.

Maazel recently completed his seventh and last season as Music Director of the New York Philharmonic.

He has been appointed Music Director of the Munich Philharmonic starting Sept 1, 2012

Maazel is regarded as one of the most important conductor maestros of the 21st century.

He won an MIDEM special award for his career as a conductor, violinist, and composer at the World Music Exposition in Jan of 2006.
