Come solista si ่ esibito con la London Symphony Orchestra, la City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, la Cincinnati Symphony, la Singapore Symphony, la Filarmonica di Duisburg, RSB Berlin e Ulster Orchestra.

Con BBC Proms (di cui ่ stato pi๙ volte ospite) con la BBC Symphony Orchestra, eseguendo l'anteprima mondiale di un nuovo concerto scritto per lui da Kevin Volans per festeggiare il suo 50ฐ compleanno.

Durante il corso della sua carriera Barry Douglas ha registrato moltissimi CD, tra i quali spiccano quelli dedicati a tutti i Concerti di Beethoven con la Camerata Ireland, Orchestra da camera da lui stesso fondata nel 1999.

Nel 2008 Sony/ BMG ha pubblicato la sua registrazione dei Concerti n. 1 e n. 3 di Rachmaninov con

- Russian National Orchestra e Evgeny Svetlanov ed ่ stato proprio con un film documentario per la BBC dedicato al Concerto n.2 di Rachmaninov, presentato da Dudley Moore e la London Symphony Orchestra diretta da Michael Tilson -Tomas che Barry Douglas ha raggiunto la grande popolaritเ presso il pubblico di tutto il mondo.
