Etihad strategy RESTRUCTURING network Alitalia aggiunge nuovi collegamenti domestici with Darwin ATR72s

Apr 2015 - RESTRUCTURING - Differentiation in strategy - The airline restructure its operations to increase its activity as a provider of contract services for other carriers in Europe.

• Etihad Airways launches regional Strategy

- Alitalia (AZ, Rome Fiumicino) is wet-leasing all four ATR 72-500s from fellow Etihad Airways operator, Darwin Airline (F7, Lugano).

• Darwin Airline Swiss airline will hereby operate its entire fleet of four Avions de Transport Régional turboprops - HB-ACA (cn 660), HB-ACB (cn 662), HB-ACC (cn 664), and HB-ACD (cn 668) - for and on behalf of the Italian carrier.

• PISA - ROMA
So far, three aircraft have begun operating under Alitalia codes with two used interchangeably on the 3x-daily PISA - Rome Fiumicino route.
The 256km-long sector has been part of the Alitalia network since before the arrangement with Darwin.

• NAPOLI - PALERMO & NAPOLI - CATANIA
A third aircraft has been deployed on flights from Naples Int'l where it is utilized on multiple daily flights to Palermo and Catania.

/// - Furthermore, the ATR, that has since replaced a jet sourced from Alitalia CityLiner (CT, Rome Fiumicino) on the routes, is also used on select departures for Rome.

The fourth ATR, HB-ACB cn 662, was the last to be used on Etihad Regional services, where it most recently was used on flights from Leipzig - Halle to Paris CDG and Zurich until March 28 when both routes were discontinued.

• ROMA - PERUGIA & ROMA - PESCARA
With all four aircraft in Italy, Alitalia will use the vacant capacity availed by two ATR72s to develop two new routes: namely from Perugia and Pescara to Rome.
Both routes will launch on April 2 operating 3x daily.
While Alitalia already serves PESCARA from Milan Linate, PERUGIA is a new domestic destination for the Italian flag carrier.


Alitalia is not the only airline within the Etihad Equity Alliance to source capacity from Darwin Airline following the latter's decision to scale back its scheduled operations in favour of the ACMI - charter market.
