• Air Berlin diventa 36a Compagnia Aerea socia dell'Association of European Airlines

L'AEA (Association of European Airlines) da oggi ha un nouvo presidente : Steve Ridgway, Ceo de Virgin Atlantic, presiede oer 1 anno l'associazione delle Compagnie Aeree Europee e subentra a Willie Walsh, patron di British Airways.

• Steve Ridgway ha dichiarato: "l'Aviazione ha un ruolo fondamentale da svolgere nella ripresa dell'economia globale e connettere le Comunità in tutto il mondo.

Dobbiamo lavorare insieme con i Governi nazionali e le Istituzioni UE ad assicurare che abbiamo le giuste condizioni per le Compagnie Aeree Europee per essere competitivi e prosperare sulla scena mondiale .

Nei prossimi 12 mesi mi auguro di vedere compiute le procedure di un unico sistema di gestione del Traffico Aereo per una maggiore efficienza di un Europa dei Cieli.

E 'altresì essenziale continuare ad innovare e ad investire in tecnologie per ridurre la dipendenza del trasporto aereo dai combustibili fossili.

• Questa settimana l'AEA ha accolto con favore tra i suoi soci la 36a Compgagnia Aerea :Air Berlin

Ora abbiamo una vasta gamma di Compagnie Aeree in associazione e credo che questo gruppo può dimostrare di essere il catalizzatore per mettere a fuoco il settore aereo sulle questioni fondamentali che hanno un impatto su tutte le Compagnie Aeree.

Con ingresso di Air Berlin nell'AEA ora sono 380 milioni i passeggeri annui e il trasporto di merci va oltre 7 milioni di tonn.

• Steve Ridgway, è il 2° Ceo di nazionalità inglese a presiedere la AEA dopo il britannico Willie Walsh nel 2010.

Ridgway entrato in Virgin Atlantic nel 1989, nominato Ad della Compagnia Aerea di lungo raggio nel 2001.

• Virgin Atlantic Chief Executive Appointed Chairman Of The Association Of European Airlines

- The Association of European Airlines (AEA) on January 10 appointed Virgin Atlantic Chief Executive, Steve Ridgway, as Chairman of the Association for 2011.

Steve Ridgway takes up the chairmanship of the association of 36 leading European airlines this week and will focus its efforts on strengthening its members’ international competitiveness.
Steve Ridgway said: “Aviation has a fundamental part to play in the recovery of the global economy and in connecting communities across the world. We must work together with national governments and EU institutions to ensure that we have the right conditions for European airlines to be competitive and flourish on the world stage”.

In the next twelve months I would hope to see Europe focus on progressing the delivery of one single air traffic management system for Europe that is efficient. It is also vital to keep innovating and investing in lower carbon technologies to reduce aviation’s dependency on fossil fuels.
This week the AEA also welcomed Air Berlin to the association as its 36th member.
Steve Ridgway said that the arrival of Air Berlin would strengthen the AEA membership: - Like Virgin Atlantic, Air Berlin is not a traditional national airline and has had to innovate in the face of strong home country competition.
We now have a broad range of airlines in the association and I believe that this group can prove to be the catalyst in focusing the aviation sector on the key issues that impact on all airlines.

With the new addition of Air Berlin the AEA members now fly 380 million passengers annually and transport over seven million tonnes of cargo.

Steve Ridgway becomes the second consecutive UK CEO to chair the AEA following Willie Walsh’s leadership in 2010.
Steve Ridgway joined Virgin Atlantic in 1989 and was appointed CEO of the long haul airline in 2001.
